IESR Received an Award from Solar Week Indonesia 2023 Leadership Awards

Jakarta, 8 June 2023 – The Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) received an Honorary Award from the Solar Week Indonesia 2023 Leadership Awards for its contribution to the development of renewable energy in Indonesia, specifically the development of the solar energy market in Indonesia on Thursday (8/6/2023). The awarding of the plaque was represented by the Director of Various New Energy and Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Andriah Feby Misna.

IESR is a think tank that focuses on energy and environmental issues that drive the transformation of the energy system in Indonesia. The transformation of the energy system towards a low-carbon energy system needs to be supported and voiced by many community groups. For this reason, IESR publishes various research on the potential for renewable energy in Indonesia and conducts diplomacy with various policy stakeholders.

IESR Executive Director, Fabby Tumiwa, stressed the importance of using solar energy in Indonesia at the opening of The Solar Week Indonesia 2023 Leadership Awards. In addition, Fabby invited policy makers to start using solar panels to reduce carbon emissions.

"I believe that solar energy has an important role to play in the decarbonization process of Indonesia's energy sector and to achieve the net zero emission target. Based on the IESR report entitled Deep Decarbonization of Indonesia's Energy System, solar energy will provide more than 80% of energy supply for electricity due to competitive prices and flexible technology," said Fabby.

On the same occasion, Fabby also represented Solar Week Indonesia to present awards to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, represented by Andriah Feby Misna, Director of Various New Energy and Renewable Energy and to the State Electricity Company (PLN) Icon Plus, represented by Rahmat Handono, Vice President of Electricity Services, PLN ICon Plus for the contribution of both parties in accelerating the energy transition in Indonesia.
